The troop mobilization for the Mexican Border proved to be good training for the imminent entry of the U.S. into World War I. Warfare broke out in Europe in 1914 and intensified during the next three years. In April 1917, the U.S. entered the "war to end all wars," when President Woodrow Wilson joined the European allies and declared war on Germany. Recruitment posters promoted the mobilization of U.S. forces into the National Guard and other branches of the armed forces.
