1865:
Bazille and Monet moved into 6 rue de Furstenberg, a few floors above the studio that had been occupied by Eugene Delacroix. Opera- and theater-loved Bazille penned a play titled Le Fils de Don Cesar (The Son of Don Cesar) with his librettist friend Edouard Blau. In August, he joined Monet in Chailly, having promised to pose for him. When Frederic returned to Paris, he met Edmond Maitre, he son of a middle-class Bordeaux family, who became his closest friend. Bazille and Monet were visited by Gustave Courbet, who encouraged them in their work.
