Police found $1,000 in ransom money stashed in this can in Bruno Haupmann's garage.
Gas Station Tip-Off:
The Treasury Department distributed posters and brochures, seen here, listing serial numbers of the ransom money. A gas station attendant noted the license plate of the man who used a gold certificate -- no longer in circulation -- to buy gas. That license led police to Bruno Hauptmann. |
