World War II LST
One of the most important Allied ships of the war was the "Landing Ship, Tank" (known to its crews as the "Large Slow Target"). More than 1,000 of the 328' LSTs were built during the war. With a crew of 7 officers and 204 men, LSTs were capable of carrying 160 troops in addition to tanks and trucks, which could be landed directly onto the beach via the revolutionary bow ramp. Seen here with a Landing Craft, Tank (LCT) on her deck and two Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel (LCVP) slung in davits on the ship's sides, USS LST-567 saw action in the Philippines and Okinawa, earning three battle stars.
Model built by Victor LaFave.
