Leaving Home
Why have people left their homelands and families to come to the United States?
War, poverty, famine, persecution, or injustice pushed some emigrants out of their homelands. Many were drawn to the United States by a desire to marry, reunify a family, open a business, make money, or educate their children. For others, the impetus was the promise of political or religious freedom.
