In this 1890 petition, the North American Turner-Bund, a German-American society, protested "any and all the measures" that would change current immigration laws. They feared that new laws would limit immigration from their homeland. Despite the petition, the new year, Congress passed legislation that established the Immigration Service and expanded the list of who could be refused entrance.
