Margaret Sanger:
Margaret Sanger, a nurse whose mother was pregnant 18 times in 22 years, coined the term "birth control" and dedicated herself to the women's rights struggle. In 1916 she was arrested in New York for advocating and disseminating information about birth control. These two letters ended up with the Children's Bureau the following year. One requests statistics to defend Sanger. The other seeks information to combat birth control.
