Design Model of Iwo Jima Memorial:
No image captures the valor, determination and teamwork essential to a successful landing on a hostile shore as does the Iwo Jima Memorial, an imposing monument adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. The Memorial's bronze figures are modeled on a 23 February 1943 photo taken atop Mount Suribachi. Two flags were raised that day. When the first flag was judged too small, a larger flag was donated by the crew of a Navy tank landing ship. |
