USS Kidd (DD 601)
The destroyer, named for Isaac Campbell Kidd who, as Commander of Battleship Division 1 on board USS Arizona, was killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, was commissioned 23 April 1943. Kidd saw action in the Solomons, the Central Pacific, and the Philippines. On 11 April 1945, the destroyer was on picket station off Okinawa when she was crashed by a kamikaze. The destroyer returned to the United States for repairs and inactivation. The Kidd was recommissioned for service in the Korean War. The destroyer is now a museum ship in Louisiana.
