Rudder Angle Indicator:
The rudder-angle indicator from U-505. The submarine was thoroughly studied from the time it was capture until 1953. The ship is now on display at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.

U-505:
On 4 June 1944, destroyer escort Chatelein and "Avenger" bombers from escort carrier Guadalcanal forced German submarine U-505 to the surface near Cape Verdes Islands. As the Germans hurriedly abandoned ship, a boarding party from the American destroyer escort Pillsbury plunged down the U-boat's conning tower hatch to claim the prize.
Not only was this the first capture of an enemy warship on the high seas since the War of 1812, but it also yielded codebooks and an Enigma cipher machine. The submarine is on display at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry.
