Early in 1941, British code-breakers secretly acquired an Enigma machine, a German encryption device, and began reading Berlin's military message traffic. These decoded messages, called "Ultra" intelligence, aided in the rerouting of Allied convoys to avoid Donitz's wolfpacks. |
