Typical of the weapons used by the Japanese on Guadalcanal, and throughout the war, are a bayonet, machine gun, and "knee mortar." Despite its popular name, the mortar was not placed on the leg to fire it. As some unfortunate soldiers found out, the recoil could break a leg. |
