Periscope:
One of the Japanese midget submarines managed to enter Pearl Harbor. It was sighted by the destroyer Monaghan which raced to ram and sink the sub. The vessel was later recovered and became part of the landfill at the naval base. The upper part of the periscope was saved.

Ko-hyoteki Submarines:
Ten young volunteers set out in five two-man submarines to attack the United States ships in Pearl Harbor. Nine of them died in the attempt. The tenth, Kazio Sakamaki, was found near death in the surf where his submarine had run aground after developing compass problems. Sakamaki became the United States' first prisoner of war in World War II.
