Books on Rigging:
Perhaps the most comprehensive and important maritime manual published about the time of the Wars of the French Revolution was David Steel's "The Elements of Rigging, Seamanship, and Naval Tactics." The work covers almost all aspects of ship construction, including a description of rope making and beautiful illustrations on rigging, sails, and maneuvering a ship.
A similar work, although not as inclusive, was D'Arcy Lever's "The Young Officer's Sheet Anchor" published in 1808 with equally detailed illustrations.
