James Madison Medal
The first American peace medals to be struck from a die at the U.S. Mint were those for James Madison in 1809, and all subsequent medals were made in this way. The reverse of the medal, bearing the clasped hands of peace and friendship, was used on all medals through the Taylor Administration in 1850. |
