Mount Vernon in Miniature

Mount Vernon in Miniature, completed in 1998 after five years of work, is a detailed replica of George Washington's Mansion. A group of patriotic citizens engaged master artists, engineers, and miniaturists from around the world to create the miniature model on a scale of one inch to one foot. They used as their reference measured drawings of the Mansion and the extensive room-by-room inventory taken just after Washington's death. Every feature, from the rusticated siding to the handsome carved mantels, was true to Washington's vision for his home, as it was understood in the 1990s. Virtually every aspect of the miniature is in working order. Door knobs turn, windows open and close, and drawers pull out.
