In the early summer of 1889 Union veterans organized the Monocacy Monument Association. A reunion held in Frederick on July 9, 1889, the 25th anniversary of the battle, raised $5,000 for the association which planned to erect a commemorative monument on the battlefield. New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont did build monuments on the battlefield. The state of Vermont dedicated their monument honoring the 10th Vermont in 1915. |
