This is a piece of the original North Bridge, site of the "shot heard round the world." It was recovered from the Concord riverbed in 1874.
The original bridge was dismantled in 1793 and there was no bridge at this location again until 1875, when a new one was erected to celebrate the Centennial of the battle.
