Layering Narratives
School isn’t the only place we learn about history and what it means to be an American. We learn from the places we visit, the TV shows and movies we watch, and the people we listen to.
The Walt Disney Company has been telling us stories about history for many years. Those stories have shaped larger conversations about what it means to be an American.
Disney shapes the public, but the public also shapes Disney. They ask for the changes they want and then decide whether to give Disney their money.
Disney has changed their lands, rides, and shows to be more inclusive. They have taken out harmful stereotypes and added new perspectives. They are working to make sure all visitors see themselves in the stories Disney tells.
