The Atomic Testing Site.
The Atomic Testing Museum at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas displays a photo of Miss Atomic Bomb 1957. She wears little but a smile and a mushroom cloud. It is totally appropriate, considering the proximity of the Nevada Test Site, located in Nye County, about 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas. This area was established on January 11, 1951, for the testing of nuclear devices. Testing began on January 27, 1951 with a one-kiloton bomb dropped on Frenchman Flat. |
