1917
In January 1917, suffragissts from the National Woman's Party started to hold demonstrations in front of the White House. Called "Silent Sentinels," they held banners in silence for hours at the White House gates. They endured the cold, rain, insults, intimidation, and long hours to bring their message directly to President Woodrow Wilson. Some were arrested and taken to jail. Imagine yourself as a 'Silent Sentinel," standing in front of the White House. How long could you last?
