"Women for Congress" Campaigns
In 1924 and 1926, the National Woman's Party mounted non-partisan "Women for Congress" campaigns to encourage and support women candidates for national office. The organization pledged resources to women who supported the Equal Rights Amendment and other women's issues. From February to May 1926, organizers Margaret Whittemore and Mabel Vernon drove from Detroit to San Francisco to Philadelphia, traversing twenty states, to give speeches and raise money for women candidates. Here they stopped to meet with Colorado Branch NWP members. |
