Suffrage Victories in Washington State and California
After Washington State passed suffrage in 1910, ending a fourteen-year drought in suffrage wins, Seattle advocates launched The Western Woman Voter to inform newly enfranchised women on civic matters. This September 1911 issue previewed the upcoming referendum in California, which narrowly passed the next month. Both state campaigns involved younger women affiliated with the College Equal Suffrage League, cofounded in 1900 by future first president of the League of Women Voters Maud Wood Park and fellow Radcliffe alumna Inez Haynes Gilmore. |
