The Espionage Act also constrained political radicalism. Anarchists such as Emma Goldman and her partner Alexander Berkman (pictured here) promoted violent anti-government action in the name of revolution. In 1917, Goldman and Berkman were indicted, convicted, and sentenced to two years in prison under the Espionage Act for obstructing the draft.
