Mural Conservation

Did you know? The Architect of the Capitol is in the process of performing maintenance at murals conserved between 1986 and 1995 to maintain historical integrity and ensure all patrons continue to have an enjoyable experience.

What's happening? We have performed an extensive cross-section analysis of the Maynard Women and Decorative panels and determined layers of oil and/or acrylic paints and dirt/dust that must be carefully removed to the original paint condition. Once that has been completed, repairs will be implemented as required to include color selections to match the original conditions.

Impact: The conservation maintenance will be performed at the Great Hall 2nd Floor and include the 8 Maynard Panels as well as 10 decorative panels. The project has an estimated duration of approximately 4-6 months. During this time a rolling scaffolding will be located at the southwest 2nd Floor however this will not impact planned events or daily visitation.
