Questions of Loyalty

Born in New York City in 1882, Hermann Hagedorn was the son of German emigrés and had himself trained at the University of Berlin. During the war, Hagedorn vociferously expressed American nationalism, promoting war preparedness and, along with other writers and artists, formed the pro-war Vigilantes group. Hagedorn also tried to bolster the image of German Americans by forming the League of Loyal Americans of German Origin. In this questionnaire Hagedorn is soliciting information from publishers and civic leaders across the nation information about German Americans in their communities.
