Significant and Landmark Cases
Whether a case is heard in a county district court or the U.S. Supreme Court, courtroom artists capture moments in case law that affect Americans' lives. Legal issues from significant cases argued before the Supreme Court that are depicted in drawings on exhibit include the protection of the first amendment right of free speech, the debate on capital punishment, and affirmative action. Courtroom artists also covered trials that ran the gamut from the property status of embryos to the rights of the deaf to sit on juries; from a courtroom filled with people wearing masks fearing an early victim of AIDS to a smoker's right to sue the tobacco industry. Some of the trials represented in this exhibition led to significant changes in the law. |
