Proto-Feminist

Little Lulu and her friend Annie begin sawing a tree supporting the "boys only" clubhouse in a display of Lulu's resourcefulness in getting the better of her male playmates. Marge Henderson Buell debuted her comic in 1935 in the Saturday Evening Post, where it ran until 1948. Buell eventually delegated writing and drawing to others but maintained rights to her creation for years, capitalizing on Lulu's popularity by developing a vast array of spin-off products.
