Brand Name Kid

In 1904 Grace Drayton produced drawings for streetcar ads for what became her best known creation, the Campbell Kids. She continued drawing them for the soup company for thirty years. The little girl in this example projects a charm that Drayton deployed in many comic creations, including Dottie Dimples, The Turr'ble Tales of Kaptin Kiddo, and paper dolls. During her career, Drayton painted portraits and joined the Plastic Club, an organization founded by women illustrators for women artists.
