No Big Deal

In a holiday party scene drawn with streamlined elegance, Ann Telnaes injects grave concern over post-9/11 loss of civil liberties. Among the most controversial proposals put forth in the name of strong anti-terrorism measures included plans to monitor conversations between detained suspects and their attorneys and to try non-citizens in military tribunals. Telnaes expected more protest, but observed that "People seemed to so easily say, we can just give a little bit of our freedom away, to make sure we're all safe."
