Dirksen Amendments to Title VII
Faced with opposition from his fellow Republicans, Senator Everett Dirksen (R-IL) reconsidered his FEPC amendments. He presented only ten amendments to the Senate on April 16. He claimed that he was trying to attract the votes of swing Republican senators through the weakening amendments to the FEPC section (Title VII), not kill the bill.
