Historic Comic Book

Lobo was the first African American character to have a titular series, which chronicled the post-Civil War adventures of an African American soldier in the West. Although never introduced by name, he was called Lobo for the token he left on his victims, a gold coin inscribed with a wolf's head and the letter "L." The series was a commercial failure, lasting only two issues. Despite its brevity, Lobo made comic book history -- not until Luke Cage, Hero for Hire, in 1972 would another African American star in his own series.
