Humor in a Jugular Vein

Originally published as a comic book, Mad was created in 1952 by Harvey Kurtzman and William Gaines, the publishers of EC Comics. Known for other titles such as Tales from the Crypt and Weird Science, EC Comics published comics featuring horror, fantasy narratives, and more mature stories. After the implementation of the Comics Code Authority in 1954–1955, which saw comics publishers self-censoring their material to publish "suitable" content, Mad soon became the only title published by EC Comics, eventually transitioning to the magazine format we know today.
