Scouting Report: Hank Aaron, 1963

As a consultant for the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1960s, Branch Rickey, then in his eighties, continued to have a hand in the game. When Rickey filed this short but frank report on Hank Aaron, the Milwaukee Brave power hitter already had more than 300 home runs, and the old scout suspected that Aaron was something of a guess hitter (one who anticipates, rather than suddenly reacts to, a particular pitch). Aaron finished his career with a record-setting 755 home runs.
