These shoes circled the bases during many of Babe Ruth's 714 home run trots. In 1921, the magazine Popular Science had the young slugger checked out at Columbia University to determine the reasons for his unrivalled success in hitting the long ball. The researchers found that "his eyes and ears function more rapidly than those of other players; that his brain records sensations more quickly and transmits its orders to the muscles much faster than does that of the average man." |
