Modern Ball

Made of a cork core, rubber, yarn, and topped with a synthetic leather hide, major league baseballs must measure between 9 and 9-1/4 inches around and weigh between 5 and 5-1/4 ounces. On extraordinary occasions, the game balls' carefully calibrated consistency is matched by their use. On July 28, 1994, Texas Rangers pitcher Kenny Rogers hurled this ball in a rare perfect game (in which no opposing player reaches base), the fourteenth in major league history.
