The Lincolns Buy A Home, May 2, 1844:
A little more than a year after their marriage, the Lincolns contracted with the Reverend Charles Dresser to buy his Eight Street house, which had been built in 1839. On May 3, 1841, the sale was completed. The Lincolns then moved into the only home they would ever own. The purchase price was $1,500 consisting of $1,200 in cash plus a downtown lot and building worth $300.
