Memorial Competition:
The Lincoln Memorial Competition determined that the memorial form should "possess the quality of universality and have a character eventually different from that of any monuments existing in the District or hereafter to be erected." The Commission advocated neither great height nor a dome, but strong horizontal lines instead. Those attributes find expression in this contemporary rendering created in 1931 for the Senate Park Commission.
