John Russell Pope, an accomplished American architect, also submitted several imposing designs for three possible sits. Although the commission ultimately selected Bacon's plan for the Potomac Park site, Pope later gained renown for the west building of the National Gallery of Art, the National Archives, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, as well as numerous additional buildings throughout the world. |
