I agree with Fredrick [sic] Douglas's [sic] idea to create more monuments in Lincoln Park, telling the story from multiple angles. As he said, we need monuments depicting African American people "erect on his feet like a man." Freedman's Memorial depicts what we were told growing up in history classes. We need to retell that history in a way that is [sic] represents the strength and resiliency of the African American experience.

The statue shows the freed slave in a subservient position and I don't like it. The statue was funded by freed slaves and it would be good to honor that, but with the amendments of new artworks celebrating African Americans.

With that being said, I'm a white guy and I don't deserve to make the decision.
