Abraham Lincoln's Briefcase
President Lincoln spent considerable time developing his biggest ideas about emancipation, the Civil War, and the future of the country, often creating several drafts in the process. While living at the Cottage, Lincoln regularly commuted to the White House and War Department, conducting business everywhere he went. It is well documented that Lincoln brought his work home to the Cottage with him each evening. Lincoln used this leather portfolio to carry his papers back and forth on his daily commute.
