Glass, 1861, with sterling silver added early 20th century
Abraham Lincoln purportedly used this glass on April 13, 1865, his last recorded visit to the Soldiers' Home, one day before his assassination. It is unclear whether the reference to Lincoln's last visit is in relation to his last ride out to the Home or if it is a reference to his last season in residence. The crystal glass is a direct match to the Lincolns' White House crystal service and remains a tangible link to President Lincoln's time at Soldiers' Home. |
