Christopher Datta served as a civil conflict specialist with the US State Department, most recently in South Sudan. His previous novel, "Touched With Fire" (2013), was inspired by the true story of Ellen Craft, who escaped slavery by disguising herself as a man, and was the first in his Fire Trilogy, followed by "Fire and Dust" in 2014.
