George Derek Musgrove is associate professor of history at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where he teaches courses in post-WWII US history with an emphasis on African American politics. He is the author of Rumor, Repression, and Racial Politics: How the Harassment of Black Elected Officials Shaped Post-Civil Rights America (2012) and co-author with Chris Asch of Chocolate City: A History of Race and Democracy in the Nation's Capital (2017). He earned his PhD in US history from New York University and frequently writes on post-civil rights era black politics.
