Supporter of the Honorable Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm
Shirley Chisholm (D-NY) was the first black woman elected to the United States Congress. She served as the representative for the 12th district of New York from 1969 to 1972. In 1972, Chisholm became the first black woman to seek a majority party's nomination for the U.S. presidency. She won ten percent of the votes at the Democratic National Convention. Rosa Parks supported Chisholm's congressional and presidential campaigns. |
