The Wilmington 10 Defense Committee

Reverend Benjamin Chavis attracted international attention in 1972 when he was falsely convicted with nine other civil rights activists of arson and conspiracy in Wilmington, North Carolina. Rosa Parks joined the Wilmington 10 Defense Committee in Detroit, one of several prisoner-defense committees she supported. In 1976 its honorary chairpersons included Rosa Parks, Congressman John Conyers, Jr., and Judge George W. Crockett.
