Rosa in the A.M.E. Church

Rosa Parks was a lifelong member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, which had its roots in the antislavery movement. At Saint Matthew A.M.E. Church in Detroit she served as a stewardess and a deaconess, the highest position for a laywoman in the A.M.E. Church. She also helped print the church bulletins, which she habitually used to jot down sermon notes.
