Edgard Pillet, "The present contains nothing more than the past and what is found in the effect was already in the cause" -- Henri Bergson, Creative Evolution, 1907. From the series Great Ideas of Western Man, 1966

"I chose this sculpture because my work also focuses around dualities. My music connects to its use of obvious contrast between dark and light, calm and frenzied. It contains both obvious elements and subtle details, both conveyed in an organic aesthetic. And similarly to the sculpture's limited use of color, my performance will be limited to the piano and my voice. The only difference is that the sculpture is abstract, which to me corresponds to instrumental music, whereas most of my songs contain at least some lyrics. However, the first song I will play is instrumental, and corresponds very closely to this sculpture."
