Portraits are usually understood as the depiction of a person's face or a representation of someone's impression of a person. This exhibition includes many works that could be thought of as conventional portraits of individuals in a wide range of media but the show also pushes the boundaries of portraiture by including works that capture the likenesses of places, memories, events, and animals.
This exhibition reflects the lifelong collecting efforts of the Washington Print Club. The Print Club was established in 1964 as an independent, nonprofit volunteer organization that welcomed collectors, practicing artists, and those who appreciate prints, drawings, and photographs. Collector members are driven by passion, inspired by visual beauty and technical virtuosity, and energized by the pursuit of the next big acquisition. Portraits and self-portraits represent a significant thread throughout many of the Print Club's members' collections.
Good Form, Decorum, and in the Manner can be considered a snapshot of the Washington Print Club today by celebrating the prized pieces its members have chosen to highlight.
