Oldfields Gate on Woodstock Drive, 1930s:
This gate marks one of the entrances to Oldfields, the estate of Indianapolis businessman, collector, and philanthropist JK Lilly Jr. The Oldfields residence was completed by 1913 for Hugh McKennan Landon, a banker who had been vice-president of the Indianapolis Water Company. Landon expanded the estate's landscape and gardens in the 1920s with the aid of landscape architect Percival Gallagher, an associate of the Olmsted Brothers firm of Brookline, Massachusetts. JK Lilly Jr. purchased Oldfields from Landon in 1932.
